Thurgood Marshall
Thurgood Marshall, a prominent civil rights lawyer who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1967 until 1991, is the subject of this photograph taken in 1957. Marshall founded the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. in 1940, and the organization played a major role in dismantling Jim Crow laws.
