Carving of a Slave Trader and an Enslaved Female
This nineteenth-century wood carving by an unknown artist depicts an enslaved woman, her hands bound behind her back with a cord that is wrapped around her neck. The male slave trader behind her controls the cord. The enslaved woman has a shaved head, wears large earrings, and is dressed only in a breechcloth with glass beads around her waist. A piece of cloth has been placed around her breasts.
