13th Virginia Infantry Flag
This Confederate battle silk flag, measuring roughly four feet by four feet, was made by A. P. Hill's wife Kitty Hill (also known as "Dolly") using material from her bridal clothes. She sewed the flag in November 1861, some months after her husband had been named colonel of the 13th Virginia Infantry. The flag was later presented, in Mrs. Hill's name, to that unit while it was encamped at Hatcher's Run, Virginia, in December 1864. The following April her husband was shot through the heart and died while trying to rally his troops.
